What is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, designed to strengthen muscles, improve posture, enhance flexibility and promote overall body awareness. It emphasizes abdominal stability, controlled movements, precise alignment and mindful breathing, with exercises performed on a mat or specialized equipment like the Reformer. By integrating principles like centering, concentration, control, precision, breath and flow, Pilates fosters balanced strength, injury prevention, and improved physical fitness so that you can keep doing the activities you love.
How do I start?
Pilates equips people just like you with the physical tools necessary for everyday tasks, enhancing balance, stability, flexibility and joint mobility, which supports safer and more efficient movement. To start practicing Pilates, we recommend you begin with our intro offer of three private one-on-one sessions to build a foundational program, after which you can continue with private training or join small group sessions.
Leah Parkhurst is a certified Pilates instructor (Peak Pilates) and Level III Reiki practitioner with over 13 years of experience teaching movement.
She began her fitness journey as a Spin instructor, AFAA certified group fitness instructor and Kripalu yoga teacher, eventually finding a true connection with Pilates while recovering from an injury.
Leah strives to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome, whether they attend in-person or virtually. Passionate about helping people develop their own Pilates practices, she combines proven exercises with industry expertise to support their day-to-day adventures. Classically trained, Leah focuses on functional fitness, enhancing mobility, strength and flexibility.
Her personalized instruction and deep understanding of body mechanics have positively impacted the lives of her clients, making functional fitness an integral part of their movement practice.
Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor.
Before any real benefit can be derived from physical exercises, one must first learn how to breathe properly. Our very life depends on it.
You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.
